To minimise traffic on a day trip to Blue Mountain, aim to leave the YYZ area either before 07:00 or after 10:00 on a weekday. This strip hosts numerous hotels catering to travellers and offers ample, easy-to-navigate parking. Staying here gives you direct access to Highways 401, 427 and 409, ensuring a quick and hassle-free departure the following morning without negotiating local traffic.

The least stressful plan is to travel on a weekday and arrive about 30 to 45 minutes before the park officially opens. From YYZ the route via Highway 401 East to Highway 400 North is very direct. Arriving early lets you secure a parking spot closer to the main entrance and avoid the long queues of cars that build up later in the morning, making for a much smoother start to your day.

Plan for a 45 to 60-minute drive from YYZ to the Scarborough Bluffs, taking Highway 401 East to the Brimley Road South exit. On busy days, especially at weekends, the main car park at Bluffers Park at the foot of the cliffs fills up very early. A sensible backup is to find legal on-street parking in the residential neighbourhoods atop the bluffs and then take the scenic footpath down to the park.

To avoid heavy congestion right at the waterfront, a good strategy is to park in a public car park slightly north of the ferry terminal. These modern facilities offer fuel, a variety of food outlets and clean restrooms.

The drive from YYZ to Montreal is on a major transport corridor and you will not encounter sparse services. The route follows Highway 401 in Ontario and Autoroute 20 in Quebec, with petrol stations, restaurants and rest areas readily available throughout. The ONroute plazas in Ontario are particularly convenient, ensuring you’re never far from amenities during the five- to six-hour journey.

To make the most of Prince Edward County, plan to arrive in the area by mid-morning, ideally on a weekday. Take Highway 401 East and aim to exit near Trenton or Belleville before noon. This timing helps you avoid the busiest weekend traffic from Toronto and allows you to reach popular spots like Sandbanks Provincial Park or the main wineries before the afternoon crowds build up.
