For a single-day trip, Hurricane Ridge is the most realistic and visually rewarding destination. The journey involves either taking a ferry to the Kitsap Peninsula or driving south around Puget Sound to Port Angeles. From there, a scenic 17-mile road takes you up to the visitor centre, offering spectacular mountain views and accessible trails without the time commitment required to reach the park's coastal or rainforest sections.

The Washington State Ferries system largely operates on a first-come, first-served basis for vehicles. During peak travel times like summer weekends or holidays, you should plan to arrive at the Seattle ferry terminal at least 60–90 minutes before your desired departure to secure a spot. You will pay at a tollbooth and then be directed into a specific numbered lane to wait for boarding instructions from the ferry crew.

A common and stress-free strategy is to park the minivan on the mainland and walk onto the ferry as a foot passenger. Near the Seattle ferry terminal there are numerous paid car parks where you can leave your vehicle for the day.
